Have just purchased Plantronics HS1 headset. Excellent speakers but can only get very low volume from the mic. when recording. Computer has Creative AWE 64 sound card and is running 98SE. Latest AWE64 drivers have been installed. All volume controls (yellow speaker, Creative mixer - master and mic, and windows - volume and mic) have all been set to max. Mute boxes are all clear. I can record speach on windows recorder clearly but it is very faint.
How can I boost the volume?
Are you aware of any problems between the HS1 and the AWE64 such as impedance mismatch?
Can you suggest any other software settings to check?
This is a very frustrating problem. Can you help me please. Thanks

It's just because the microphone is not THAT sensitive, I have the same problem, hold it closer and your position your mouth facing right into the mic. Then try it again and it should work, noticed this about quite a few mics.Don't be discouraged though, I've been wrong before.

Thanks for suggestion Hellmund. Have tried shouting directly into mic but no improvement when recording. Also tried a different mic but same results. I suspect that sound card is working ok as I can hear every little noise through the mic amplified through earphones and also through speakers (especially with the mic volume controls set to max). So is it a software conflict? maybe an old .dll lurking around? Anyone have a suggestion where to start looking or what to look for?

Yes thanks vfrxsw a 20db mic boost is exactly what I need however my volume controls window only shows an ADVANCED button under: volume control, wave, and wave synth sliders. No ADVANCED button under midi, CD audio, line in, or microphone. So how do I get to select the the boost? Anyone know what windows files are associated with the above so that I can check their versions?
