I'm trying to put a 40 GB Hard Drive into an old machine with an Azza PT-6IBP Mother Board. I beleive the bios on the M.B. is not recognizing the new large capacity drive. I'm trying to figure out if there's a bios update that will solve my problem, and if so, which one. The Azza website does not offer any details about any of the given updates, so I can't tell if any will help me. I was going to flash the bios, with what I hoped was a newer update, but the flash software warned me that it was not the right update, so I cancelled it. Does anyone have any experience with this M.B. and large drives? There's an update posted, for 2MB boards only, but the number on my bios chip is nothing like the number that azza gives as an example on their website, and hence, I can't even really identify what I have. My bios chip is w83977EF-AW, which i suspect is 256k ?. other details:Win98SE, celeron 400.

Is it routine for the flash program to warn you that the update you're about to do, doesn't match the part number?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I dunno about that board specifically, but a lot of older boards will never have a bios update for larger drives. the mb companies won't waste time developing bioses for old hardware.

you have 2 options, use ezbios overlay or get an ata controller card that supports larger drives. you might even have to use the "compatibility" jumper setting on the hdd in combination with ezbios. I would recommend that you get another controller card, since ezbios can be a bear.
