I have recently purchased a ricoh mp90120a. I can't get the thing to burn. I follow the manual to the letter. Simulation goes great, with in 3-4 secs exactly. I get Illegal speed of medium followed by burn proccess at #x failed. I am using the supplied Nero 5.0.

Set up: 900 amd, Abit Kt7A(not configured in raid) 2 7200 Maxtor 30 GB HD primary Master/Slave, 256 ram. mp90120a secondary master.

Please Help?

What media are you using? I recommend a good quality CDR disc. Personally, I found that the PNY Black Diamond disks work best for me, since switching to them I haven't made a single coaster.

Previously I was using Imation disks, anybody need some drink coasters, I have about a dozen left.

Seriously, just use one of the better names in media...PNY, Sony, TDK, they all make good disks. I found that going for the "best deal" isn't always the best idea.

PS - Check your literature that came with the burner, it probably lists recommended media. I also use Nero 5.0, switched to that from the Adaptec software that came with my burner.

Doesn't the error just mean that the media doesn't support the speed you're trying to burn with. Use a lower speed to get it right. Most cdrs are 8x.

Are you using CDR's you bought or what came with the burner, my brothers burner came with a box of old 4X compliant CDR's. Made a few coasters until I realised, I personnally found TDK good for music CD's and Verbatim do music and everything else great for our burner. I found imation gave me troubles as well Kuasimodem, my brother was once given some Gack CDR's. The burner wouldn't even recognise there was a CD in it. You get what you pay for I'm afraid, One other quick note, for ISO(data) cd's Kodak works especially well.

To tell you the truth, my wife bought a buunch of "hypermedia" disks at Big Lots for 29 cents apiece! Imagine, .29 for an 80-minute cdr in it's own jewel case! AND, not a coaster in the bunch.

We use an Iomega Zip 650, (which of course is no speed demon...) but hey, each and every burn is a good one.

Take care,

I agree. I got strange error messages until I bought maxwell write only CD's.
I am rockin&rolling now.
I got an Acer CDRW 8mb buffer(a must) but I highly recommend to step down the recording speed from the highest level to the next level (in my cae from 8x to 4x)

Thats the crazy thing. That's what I thought. I have used different Cd-r's. Including the ones packaged with the burner. Ricoh's premium, and I used vibatrin and imation. I hope I got the spelling right.

I have performed burns at all the allowed speed, 2,6,8,12, With absolutely no success. Helppp.

If you've tried different brands of discs, I hate to say it, but you may have a DOA burner. Take it back to where you bought it and get a replacement.

That's the only thing that I can think of, unless you're using a small power supply. I'm running 2 hard drives, 2 cd drives (including burner) with my 900 T-bird on a KT7-RAID and a 300W PS. I'm having no burner probs.
