I just built a system with K7S5A pro and XP 1800+ mobo with PC2100 DDR non-ECC (512). (I had problems with PC133 ECC memory... Maybe ECS board does not like ECC memory)

1. When system boots, it says CMOS settings wrong. I entered setup and set CPU/DRAM speed to 133/133.

2. The BIOS recognized cpu correctly etc.

3. I can press the reset button and the system comes up fine consistently.

When the powercycle the system (either by turning off the PS switch or the front switch), the system fails to come up consistently. There are no beeps and the screen is blank. Sometimes the powersupply shutsdown automatically on poweron.

Suspected powersupply, replaced with a 400W PS which meets AMD specs but to no avail.. (same behaviour)

Planning to return the mobo for a replacement...

Be sure that the heat sink is seated properly. Also, the motherboard may have an intermittent ground. Remove the board from the case, place it on a soft, non-conductive surface near the case and plug in the ATX power. Place the vid card in and connect the monitor. Connect the power. Nothing else needs to be connected. Press down hard on the vid card and use your screwdriver to short the POWER BUTTON pins. See if it POSTs consistently.

It was a mobo seating problem which was causing all the troubles. Inserted some washers, the mobo is working great even with my old ECC memory.

Thanks for the help...
