Easy CD creator v4.03

Asus P5A--AMD K62 450--256 Mb RAM--Iomega 12x10x32 burner (same as plex, latest plex firmware)--Pioneer DVD-115--Clean WIN98

Software will lock at the splash screen if I try to start it with cd in my Pioneer DVD-115 drive. It will also lock if I start the software first, then add a CD to the drive. When it locks I am still able to move the mouse but I am unable to CTRL-ALT-DLT out of it. I have to reset.

I have tried a fresh install of windows and all drivers are current. I have also tried running the software with the burner removed. Just the HD and DVD drive in various IDE combinations, same thing occurs. Any ideas?

I also have a copy of Nero that came with a TDK drive I have in another computer. I would like to use that with the iomega but it is TDK specific. Is there any way around that? I know there are licensing issues, but if I could use that with my Iomega, I would use the adaptec with the TDK.

Well... Never could get the Adaptec software to work. I did some creative internet searching and was able to get Nero to work with my burner. However, even though I like Nero just fine, I would like the Adaptec software to work as that is the software that came with the burner. Any ideas about the conflict with the Pioneer DVD drive? BTW, I have flashed the DVD drive with the latest firmware on the off chance that that would solve my problem, but had no luck.

Go into the device manager and play around with the I have the auto instert and disconnect checked for my DVD ROM and the other two uncheched. I use Adaptec 4.03 with last upgrades.

If you installed the Asus Busmaster drivers, get rid of them! Just go with the Windows Busmaster!

Right now I have gone with a fresh install and I am using nero. I am not going to fool with Adaptec for the time being. Not until my next clean install episode. However, I think the autoinsert may have something to do with the problem as I have heard something about that in the past.

Why do you suggest going without Asus's drivers? I don't think I can enable DMA without them.

I have the same mobo w/a DVD and a CD-RW. When I opened Adaptec and used the DVD as a source, it would lock up my computer. I had to use the CD-RW as both the source and target drive.

I read somewhere that motherboard busmaster drivers cause a lot of problems in Windows 98 and that it was best to just use the busmasters from Windows. So I uninstalled the Asus busmasters. My problem went away! So did a lot of other problems.

The only mobo driver I have installed is the AGP!
