Can I over clock this?
533 Celeron
MS-6182 ATX WH8 MO-BO
Do you need more info?
Thnx
Bryan
PS- It's running at 66Mhz(Bus) and I can't figure out how to get it to 100Mhz....or maybe I just can't...Celeron is attached to a CPU Card that has no jumpers on it.

you can... but it wouldnt make that much of a difference. Its a celeron for christ sakes...

Thnx for the info Cyber101....
FYI: This Celeron is OC friendly(At least from what I have read, someone will correct me if I am wrong). From 533Mhz to 800Mhz is a nice jump. I just don't have the faintest clue as to how to OC. And I haven't been able to find much out about the MO-BO and its OC ability.
grrrrrrrr

thats very true.. although it's somewhat possible to oc ur cpu, u need to know if the mobo would allow it. What kind of computer is it? COMPAQ? hopefully not...

I am gonna say it's a custom build, but that sounds so....well...so....hmmmm....well when I think custom I think bells and whistles and this definitely isn't a bells and whistles kinda box. I put it together after I found an old case, a kinda old MO-BO, and,of course, the...ahem...Celeron...;)
So the question is now about the MO-BO. And also the Bus speed, I want it at 100Mhz if it can do that. Which I know it can, I just can't figure out the jumper settings and the BIOS settings. Thnx!

You might try running a utility called aida32. It might help identify what components you have in this custom box you have. Look -here- (http://www.aida32.hu/aida-features.php?bit=32)
It can generate a long, detailed report about your system. I found it to be helpful and interesting.

I would say you have little to no chance at all of getting 800mhz from this cpu. It is just to big a jump. Very few chips will run at 150% of their rating.

Actually a lot of the old Celerons will do just that.
Note the 300A@450, the 366@550. Later steppings of the Celemine, which he has, would also jump a full bus notch, as would some tualatin Celerons.

yea there on chip caches suks or non exsistent..... good luck overclocking it though..... the mobo is essential to overclocking, and so is the ram

I have alot of reading and learning to do about OCing, but am looking forward to it as anything that you can "mess" with is always a good Sunday afternoon waster.
Still trying to find out how to get the FSB to 100Mhz though so if anyone knows or can point me in the right direction I would be much obliged!
533 Celeron(Can this do 100Mhz?)

You should do a SEARCH here on Sysopt. If I'm not mistaken, the Celeron oc was covered a few years ago, as I had done a search for an oc project myself and some stuff came up.

actually coming from a person who is also using celeron with no problems at all I can say I went from 667mhz to 833mhz. One day I'll get into the ghz category when I can afford it.:t

x51out- First let me say I always try and remember to do a search on a topic first and that is what I did with this subject. Second let me say I got lazy and didn't read much past the first page of results from the search. I went back and did another search and read past the first page of results and read a little more of each post and have learned LOTS more than if this thread lasted 3 months. So thanks for the info stating that if I seeketh I shall findeth and for the lesson of reading past the first page of results.(Which I almost never do)
:t
Thnx to Cyber101 for getting this thread started;)

Just a little PostScript to this, and someone correct me if I am wrong about this conclusion.:)
The MO-BO MS-6182 ATX WH8 is a Slot 1 MO-BO, the Processor is a Socket 370 so I am using a Slot 1 adaptor card and I believe that there is where the failure lies. The CPU Card is prolly a generic and it has no jumpers on it. So I am guessing that the card doesn't support the 100Mhz FSB that I need to OC the chip.

consult ure manual im shure there is a fsb setting on the mobo somewhere since there prob not goin to make a mobo specifally to celerons atleast i think so.... well if u lost here is a link to the manual ofcourse in pdf form ms-6182 (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/manual/mnu/spt_mnu_detail.php?UID=118)

i decided to go the extra mile and dl the pdf file...... and take a glance..... u wanna locate the J2 jumpers there between the processor cartridge and the agp slot.... u want to remove the top jumper out of the 2 sets of jumpers..... and i think ull be able to set it in the bios
look below screeny of manual

Big Mikey- Look at that picture again and you will see one of the probs I have, they show they jumpers one on top the other in the manual(where they show you which jumper to set) but on the MO-BO thyey are side by side. Which you cxan also see in the illustration. So I don't know if they are flipping the jumper picture left or right or what. I have tried ALL combinations with the jumpers, no matter what it always freezes up during the POST. SOmetimes during the VGA Init, and sometimes during the processor init.
What I have tried:
-Setting just the jumpersall combinations) for the 100Mhz FSB(left BIOS alone)
-Setting jumper and changing the BIOS setting together(first BIOS then shut down then change jumper(J2) then power up...hangs...all J2 combinations)
-Tried the above with my Vic card in
-Tried above with just onboard Vid
-Even flashed my BIOS back to an older BIOS to see if that was the prob(Which brings up another question....BUT I will save that for someone else who has this MO-BO and has flashed their BIOS...if this is you please post here or PM me...thnx)
What I haven't tried:
-Yanking all but the bare necesities(sp?)(ie...modem, sound card, NIC card) see as I am hanging up on reboot before any of these devices are recognized(I think)
-Prolly a million other things that I just don't know about yet.
Please remember this is my first attempt to OC and it is entirely possible that I am missing a step that would seem like a no brainer to anyone else. Thnx again

Wow, Hearie, you did all that?? My hat off to you. That is quite alot of hassle. Would be nice if I had that kind of diligence.;)

x51out- That is just SOME of what I have tried!:)
And the next time my girlfriend starts to complain about me being on the computer to much I am gonna let her know that she should respect my DILEGENCE in matters!!! (Well maybe I'll tell her that without the attitude...;) )

hmm this would be alot easier wit an amd lol...... anyhow.... we know ure cpu/mobo is good for the task....... wut ram are u running? ure gonna need something like pc100 .... and im hoping u have a descent PSU? hmm ill be bak lata if i can think of anything else
on a side note..... i dont mean to undermine ure determination at overclocking this system.... in fact its nice to c some one actually making an effort ..... but quite honestly dont think its time for a new rig? u can build ureself one hell of a rig (well atleast compared to ure currunt one) for about 400$ give or take
then u can give the machine to ure g/f so she can c y u spent so long on the comp.... j/k :p

btw all is not lost u might be able to run that pc 66 ( if it is) at 100 speeds buy fiddeling around wit the settings.... if it was me id go wit the crappiest setting (higher numbas) and c wut the ram can do... if at all
