I had a friend burn me a data cd on his system which is windows XP.. all excited to try it out but for some reason my cdr drive will not read the cd. I tried it on his before leaving and it came right up. Is it my cdr drive causing prob or because i have ME? My drive is a Creative RW8439E....anyone have an idea?

might be the media. Try a different brand cdr.

In addition I looked around for latest driver for Creative RW8439E and i could NOT find one anywhere.. Probably not the solution but I couldn't believe I couldn't find a newer driver..

What software was used to burn the cd?

Not sure there, Doesn't XP have software built in for burning? He didn't use a specific program he just moved data into a new folder and then selected burn onto disc..

It was just a thought. I've had media burnt in 1 drive not work in another drive. Tried a different brand and it worked. Might even be just that 1 cdr your drive won't read. You could repeat the exact process with a new (same brand) cdr and it might work.

Then thats your problem. If he would have used, lets say Ez Cd creator 5 and finalized the cd, you would have no problems.

r8500 is right the cd has to be finalized to be read on another system.

go with methos on this one. according to Scott Meullers Upgrading and Repairing Guide there are three different kinds of dye used; phthalocyanine, cyanine and azo. the first one is the least likely to be compatable with other drives followed by the other two in that order

i read somewhere else that the black ones are the most likely to no be compatable.
