Need some help with a program. Have been running Works Suite 2000 on the computer for the past 18 months. This application obviously includes a number of programs but specifically I am having trouble with 'Word'. This program was working fine yestreday but today when you click on it, the program starts to activate and then hangs forever and does not load. I then have to press ctrl/alt/del to close the 'Word' program. A message then comes up 'low system resources'. I reboot the computer and check resources and find that the sytem has 88% of resources free.
I have used the repair function on the installation disks, installed the word program over the original installation, taken Word off the system and reinstalled it, taken all of the Works Suite off the System and reinstalled it. Same problem with same messages.
I've run scandisk, defrag and my Virus scanner (ETrust) to no avail. Problem still exists.
Can anyone shed some light on this problem? It appears that the 'Word' program, or something else is draing resources. All other programs appear to be functing normally.
Thanks for your assistance

Welcome to Sysopt!

If its running in the background then go to msconfig/startup tab and disable it and win update if its there and the rest of the apps you installed hit apply and restart see how you make out for now.

Thanks. I'm not actually new, hadn't been online for a while and had forgotten my user name and password and had to reregister.

I had tried shutting down all programs running in the background with no effect. I have run system file checker and found 7 corrupt dll files. I suspect that it is a virus. As I said I had run my virus scanner, MyEtrust and it did not detect anything. I have also tied running an online virus canner but am not having much luck in getting it to work.

If those Online Virus SCanners are not working

then is time to FORMAT and re-install new

but before that try this one http://security.symantec.com/ssc/lunavbrk.asp?scantype=2&langid=ie&venid=sym&plfid=22&pkj=RNYRESLHFEPGEVVSDUX

THanks allgamer, I'll give it a try. I've already started backing up the important stuff off my system in anticipation of an Fdisk. The sysytem probably needs it anyway, it's been running for nearly 3 years without reformatting or anything.
