Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Very Intrusive Spam...Help!!!
My Father is getting intrusive spam from some porn site which pops up as a grey box with visit www.janita.cc blah blah blah. This only happens when he is logged on to outlook express and is becoming a real pain. I have tried to do all I can but to no avail!
Operating system is Windows XP home. No dubious sites have been visited btw!! so where it is coming from we just don't know!
Any suggestions on how to stop this would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks....

Clean up the PC.Get Adaware and Spybot, both are free and will identify and remove spyware if you let it.
It seems strange that it only happens when outlook express is open.
Just popups not emails right? If that is correct then what I suggested above should solve the problem.
Ps
If you are not familiar with Spybot be careful with what it finds as far as deleting the identified entries.Just delete the ones that are at the top in red and already ticked.

Does the titlebar on the Window say "Messenger"? If so, all he needs to do is go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services and open Messenger. Set it to Manual and Stop.

From the description

but instead of Manual, just Dissable it completely

many thanks for replies......downloaded spybot, adaware and then pop-up stopper which prevented janita from visiting. Disabled messenger and now she's barred for good!:) Cheers...

Id have a stern word with papa - generally speaking - people who get porn email / popups etc have either inadvertently gone on to a porn site , submitted their email address to porn related sites or have been surfing for porn - naughty daddy!!!

I disagree. I don't visit porn sites and I get buried in this **** every day. My ISP filters junk mail and I still get maybe 6-10 porn spams daily. My mother is nearly 70 years old, lives alone and no one else has access to her pc and she gets it everyday. I don't want to see the internet interfered with by gov't but this is going to be it's downfall.

I was only speaking "in general"
I work as a security admin and have often to advise users about this and as you say it is a real problem.
Hmmm - Hotmail can be a bit of a problem with that sort of stuff.
Depends on which ISP you use.
NTL is wonderful - Ive never had a single porn spam on any of my 5 free email addies - Its all down to which sites you give your email address out to although email harvesters can locate email addresses.
Generally speaking you should have two or more email addresses - one for business use and one for general spamming/surfing/competitions etc - Usually a hotmail address so that when it starts filling up with spam - ditch and and create another one.
