A while back I was overclocking this setup:
AMD Duron 1100Mhz
MSI KT7Pro2-A (KT133)
512Mb PC133 SDRAM
HOW I THOUGHT I TOASTED IT
-------------------------------------
It had been running stable at 1287Mhz (11X116Mhz - I think) at 1.90V
The I decided to see if it was Prime 95 stable. It seemed to cope OK with torture test for the first few hours. I left it to continue overnight.
When I woke up..crashed...rebooted....has POST problems. They were random results...No Vid Card info . Sometime it would POST but then hang when loading. Then afterwards it simply just a blank black screen.
Reset the CMOS...same results. Sniffed for a *burnt CPU* none. Rechecked and reseated everything. Still nothing. Had no other chip to test if it was the M/B. Gave up....persuaded the wifey I needed a new motherboard/cpu/ram :D
ONCE AN OVERCLOCKER.....
----------------------------------
Anyways long story short I ended up getting an 1800+ TbredA on an MSI KT3Ultra3 board with a stick of PC2700 DDR RAM. Love this chip! 2.0Ghz on 1.75V Stable!
RESURRECTED?
-------------------
So I decided to see what I could salvage from the "RIP Duron" and happened to pick up a used 750Mhz Duron to check if the Mobo was at fault. Setup the 750+KT7Pro2-A in a separate case and it POSTed fine and dandy (couldn't run any test no spare HD.. yet) SO I popped out the 750 replaced it with the supposedly dead 1100 and eureka...it posted! I left it in the BIOS to run idle to see if it would **** out...nada. I will have to install a HD to really diagnose it.
Now I got almost enough spares to build my wifey her own system so I could play CS with her! :D (yeah I wish!) more like Internet machine or server perhaps.
LESSON LEARNED?
-----------------------
Man and for sure I thought I had toasted it! Just for the heck of it I checked out the 750's stepping AKCA...looks like a good overclocker too! :X
