Last year since Jan. I managed to crash 3 new Seagate 40GB 7200rpm. The first 1 i used for about 2months, then it crashed. it was replaced with a new one which i used it for another 2-3months, then crashed. again it was replaced, after 6 months -- a crash! it was again replaced. just recently, it crashed again and i'm just waiting for the replacement to be delivered--again... all those data lost! and everytime, i didn't back-up!
whats wrong with seagate drives! they used to make great drives. my maxtor hdds doesn't have problems like this.. my maxtors, wd hdds last for at least 2-3yrs.
anyone having the same problems seagate drives?

I have a seagate 40 gb 7200 rpm and before it was detecting it as something else, then I changed the IDE Cable and it works perfectly with no errors at all.

Sounds like something is wrong. Personally I won't touch a Seagate.
I use Maxtor, WD or Samsung for my boxes.

I run 4 40 gig 7200rpm barracudas on this rig for over 2 years now and they all run great.Quiet as well.
Had one die on me more than two years ago,was a 20 gig and it was noisy from day one. :t
How many more crashes do you think you will need before you realise the value of "BACKING UP" ????
