Check out my sig.The TNT2 pro is pci btw.Up untill recently i had a 1ghz celeron and it tought me 2 things.
1.Never buy a budget processor
2.Never judge a processor purely by its clock speed
Im on a budget but when AMD release the 64bit hammers i plan on getting the fastest chip for my mobo (ECS K75A) at the last minute so i get it as cheap as possible :p.
Thanks, and great forum btw (much better then Hardcop).

What motherboard do you have? What case and power supply?
For now, I'll say about a 4. :p

I give you a 6. If it were for office use, it's an easy 8. :t
OOOHH - you're on my short list now. I like the 1G Celeron.

My man, if it was the 1.1a ghz celeron id forgive you, but the regular 1ghz celeron ?, i have friends with 700mhz pIII's that run better.

4-5 is my rating.
PCI vid cards drag the system down, sucking PCI bandwidth for video. The video chipset's a little old for gaming, but fine for office use.
You don't say whether the RAM is DDR or SDR, SDR would slow it down, and more would be nice.
I certainly woudn't turn it down, but I would be upgrading it for my own use.
If the Celeron 1GHz was Tualatin, I don't see what the problem was. Unless it had been on an 810 motherboard, which would have been a problem right there.

Oh, you mean the 128KB Celeron? You're right - that sux! The 1.0A is sweet though. :r

Its sdr so there is a little lag.As for my old 1ghz celeron it had the old 128kb cache. The reason i upgraded was that the old family pc (p1 166mx @ 233mhz) died so rather then getting a new comp i said id sell them my old cpu and mobo. The ram is from my old comp and so is the vid card (cause the pos gigabyte board didnt have an agp slot).
Id love to get my hands on the cheapest vid card that will play Madden Nfl 2003 so i can put it in the old celeron and stop my brother playing it on my comp.I dont care if its only 640x480 16 bit, i dont give a sh*t :) (its not my game)

Yeah I am a proud owner of a 1ghz tualitin I am looking to buy a 1.3 or 1.4 ghz tualitin. Then when I build another computer in 4-5 monthes (it will be a gaming rig) I will use the tualitin based system as a mutlimedia station.
Ahhh I cannot wait.

Spend 40-50 bucks or so on a Gf4MX online (it's not much of a gamers card but it's ok for basic 2D).
Put that in your system, then pass the TNT2 down to your family. It runs the game so your brother can use it.
Did the Gigabyte board have the Intel 810 chipset? I am thinking it must have had onboard vid or you wouldn't have been able to take the video. (Or did you migrate a card from the P1).

Get a 512 of DDR and the better graphics card and I'd say its a pretty good computer.

I'd have to give you a 5 given the reasons stated by some of the other members...:t

get a real motherboard. No matter what you put on a K7S5A, it will still add up to 4.5

From what I've heard of the K7S5A It's down to luck you either get a board that does what it says on the box or a bit of a duffer! Also seems to depend what you plan to actually do with it. If its working IMO stick with it.

There's nothing wrong with the K7S5A series boards. The SiS 735 is the fastest first generation DDR chipset for the Athlon and the boards are stable and reliable.
Yes they are picky about RAM and PSU, but if you buy good quality parts you won't see a problem.

Yea i know shes pretty average but like i said im on a budget. The ram and the vid card came from my old celeron, ill prolly upgrade them during the summer. My K75A is working perfectly, i burned her in for 36 hours on the trot and no hiccups.
Thanks guys ;).
