Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : DVD-ROM won't read anything....but has installed fine.
Does this ring abell in any helpful persons head?
It rings a bell in mine, but I cann't for the life of me recall what to do.
My dad has joust bought a new PC, including a DVD-ROM to replace his old CD-ROM, but the DVD-ROM won't read anything!
I'm at work now, using the cable 'net access to research as much as I can before I go back home to dial-up...and slow help!
Once I get home, expect some more symptoms and a list of components in the PC...
I'm just hoping that someone know's this, I can't think of too many reasons for this to happen.
Cheers,
Pat.
If the drive doesn't show in explorer you haven't connected the cables correctly =)

Thanks for the heads up, but it is connected properly to the m/b.
I only got the chance to look at this properly last night...
The DVD-ROM is detected by the BIOS, Windows, everything.....but.....it won't read anything that I give it.
No matter what kind of disk I put into the drive (DVD, CD, CD-R) I get a BSOD http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
The error is something along the lines of error in VxD scsi1hlp(03), and the PC needs to be rebooted to do antyhing.
I tried my DVD-ROM and got the exact same problem (Mine Pioneer 105s, Dad Pioneer 106s)...so it's not a problem witht the physical drive.
It's using a VIA motherboard, and I'm not sure if the VIA 4-in-1 drivers have been installed? Then again, I have never used a board with VIA's new chipset either.
I think the board is the Asus A7V133, using the KT133A chipset.
CPU - Thunderbird 900
Graphics Card - Sparkle Nvidia TNT2 M64
OS - WinME Full Retail Version
I can't actually be on the net, while in front of this PC, becuase our server is down http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif, so i'm doing all of this from work.
Cheers,
Pat.

Change the name of the file,scsi1hlp.vxd to scsi1hlp.old.Do this by going to find files and type in scsihlp.vxd click find now and when it comes up rt click file and rename then reboot......I hope this helps ...Driver
Thanks driverdude,
I'll try now and post how I go.
Cheers,
Pat.
I just got a message that it could be the motherboard's chipset that the Pioneer DVD-ROM does not like.
Aparrently, the Pioneer DVD's only like BX chipsets, and VIA's new chipset, mightn't work without some kind of patch....(patch is released, currently downloading)
Either way, I'm at work again, and can't do much untill I get home.
But...the server is back up at home, and I can have the PC and the 'net in front of me at the same time.
Cheers,
Pat.
Hmm,
It seems as if everything is fine now.
I deleted scsi1hlp.vxd, and voila!
!!ALL GOOD!!
Also, My previous mentioned post regarding the VIA chipset and Pioneer DVD drives seems....wrong....to say the least, maytbe this will work for someone, but it did nothing for me.
Anywayz,
Cheers for now,
Pat.
btw, Driverdude,

It seems like a strange solution, but fixes everything!
