i currently have 1 stick of 64 mb ram
my system supports dimm\sdram my system is at 67mhz fsb

my question is, if i got two (i only have two slots) sticks of 128 mb ram, could i simply swap the 64 megs with a 128 meg stick? if so, does it recognize it on its own or do i have to change bios or something

same question if i just got 1 extra 64 meg stick.... would i have to change something or does it recognize it on its own?

thanks for any help

also im sorry if you have to move this thread cause its in the wrong spot or something... ^_^

If everything is working right it will pick up any ram change right away....I have never had a problem....it will just post the changed amount on startup and away you go!

You put your RAM in here. man...

Oh sorry...

Your system will recognize it fine, like Paul says. You can use anything up to PC133 in that system. You are not limited to PC66. There is also something called PC150, but afaik and as far as I have read, these are merely PC133 that are stable at 150.

Make sure your system can support that much
I used to have a gateway 2000 that could support a mere 64MB http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

it should be good, sandra says it supports 256mb max, max module size 128mb
i need more ram because now i have 64 mb, but when i turn on aol only! i have 8 mb left
just aol, starter, systray, caheman and explorer

windows takes about 32 mb by its self...

Some packaged systems like IBM's have a fit when RAM is installed. You have to simply go into the bios and save settings and exit and all is good.

i have a packaged nec system, yesterday i took out the ram and put it back (to see if i could without breaking it) and it restarted fine
so it should be alright i hope ^_^

Is it difficult to install additional memory? (http://support.crucial.com/scripts/crucial.exe/solution?11=000830-0016&130=000967668527&14=&2715=&15=&2716=&57=faq&58=&2900=&25=-1)

If you have any doubt about what type or size of RAM you need, visit Crucial.com (http://www.crucial.com/) and select your system from their Memory Selector™ (http://www.crucial.com/store/listProductLine.asp?mfr=NEC&x=12&y=10)

Their FAQ (http://support.crucial.com/scripts/crucial.exe/faq) , Memory Installation Guide (http://www.crucial.com/support/install.asp) , Glossary of Terms (http://www.crucial.com/library/glossary.asp) , and S-Files (http://www.crucial.com/library/sfiles1.asp) are all top notch sources for learning about memory.

new question, can you mix ram, like 64mb and 128, or do they both need to be 64, or both 128
