is a memory bus rated at 333mhz the same as pc2700?
in that case...why do they call it pc2700???

I know that the PC whatever stands for the bandwidth of the RAM. For instance...PC2700 has 2.7gb of bandwidth. But as for why they did this I remember reading somewhere that at one point the mhz of the RAM was the same as some other number and created some confusion so they just went with the bandwidth. If that makes any sense.

What sort of performance hit would you gain going from PC2100 to PC2700?

Well Crucials PC2100 ECC stuff is about the same price as their 2700 regular and it o/c's to the same level
