I have a SB4100 Motorola surf board cable modem. supplied from cable company. I'd rather get my own. any sugestions on one to get? Is this a good one that they let me use? I have OS 98SE. 1.8 P4 512 sdram. It runs through a router that is a Linksys . Do these modems make a big differents on your connection ??:t

Honestly, I have not noticed any difference between the Motorola and the Toshiba that I bought on my own.

Check here for cheap prices:

I used the Toshiba and I currently have a SB4100. The Toshiba was even USB and I noticed no difference in the connection. A better cable modem isn't going to give you a better or faster connection, that's up to the plant the cable company has up and the caps they're imposing. Besides, you have what is arguably the best one out there now with the SB.

Depending on your ISP, you're probably better off leasing it because if, when, you have problems, they'll just replace it.

Over in the UK its a bleeding monopoly

My cable provider's service will only run on three modems, two of which are no longer in production and the third which can only be gotten through them
