Does anyone know if the ASUS E894B will take a higher CPU than celeron 1400, like a 1700?????????

Asus TUSI-M, right? You can't use a 1.7ghz Celeron, since it is based on the Pentium 4. The TUSI-M supports FC-PGA2 Pentium III Tualatin and Celeron Tualatin processors.

The highest ghz available PIII is 1.4ghz. But this is very pricey. On www.pricewatch.com the lowest price is $204(US)! But then again, this is about the price I paid for my PII 400mhz way back when.
