Remember when I mentioned the green CPU cooling duct I saw at the Intel Channel Partners conference?

Simple and effective! It's already on two of Foxconn's offerings:

Newegg has 'em!

Cool (pun intended). Bet it helps keep that processor cool and case temps down some too. :x

Hehe I already have had that for almost 2 years on me P4. Run a side mount duct from the plexi-glass side I built to the cpu. But mine dont neck down like that. Its all the size of the cpu fan streight through! In the winter gains are nominal but in the summer temp. drops are great from it!:)

won't that decrease in the neck size increase the wind noise?
I'm wanting something like that, shame newegg doesn't do the UK, guess I'll make one for my new machine later this year (probably after the new AMD 64bit processors come out).

I used to have something like that jimmy-rigged with a rolled up piece of cardboard made into a stubby funnel (80mm to 60mm at 1.5 inches)and taped over the side fan to the inside of the case. But it was just too ridiculous, and anybody looking over my shoulder when I opened my case would burst out laughing... looking at that picture though makes the cheap-skate in me wanna head over to Home Depot again... ;)

I wouldn't mind something like that for amd's, maybe a smooth tube ported out the back, since my side panel fan helps my vid card. Thought about duct tubing but their ribbed and would think that would cause turbulence vs smooth wall.

It's nice, but not every motherboard has the cpu socket in exactly the same spot. :p

The real trade-off with this design is the fact that the CPU fan (loudest one) will have it's sound ducted straight out the side.
There's no free lunch, I guess. :(
My HP has something similar to one of them. I will take a picture of it and post it for you all.:)
Here are the links for the pics.

Sorry, the first three look a little bright. That is because of the conditions of light in my room against the flash. Then on the last pic it looks dark because I turned off the flash but, anyway there is the HP fan thing.

actually there is
not refering to free luch (but also there is :p)
re: ducting / sound
remember those Other posts we had a few months back re ducting and air etc etc?
well it's easy to just extent a extension tubing from the out port of the case to a far are of the house, say the Dryer ;)
and hook it up the the dryer tubing
or maybe just open the window and stick it outside :D
i'm actually on my way of doing that with some cheap plastic
still trying to find some good plastic tubing that will NOT MELT away at the CPU HSF
:t

I always thought that the volcano HSF's would be good for using with a CPU heat funnel like that as they are cylindrical anyway, and with the right diameter funnel you could get it right round the HSF for some pretty good suction.
Just a thought.
BTW good idea having the funnel out the back instead of the side, might cut down on noise too!
