if anyone has beos but cant get on the internet cause ur internet coonection software is windows only (aol, compuserve, etc) you can get onto the internet through one of the free isp's. i found it at a site for dreamcast so dreamcast players can get on the web for free but cant have the software.
if anyone is interested just reply ok.

o btw i dont think its illegal is it? since its free anyways right?

By performing some investigation with "winipcfg.exe" within Windows, then you can usually extract the needed network information to use most "Windows only" ISP services with most any operating system. I actually have MSN as my nationwide provider, but I commonly use Linux, BeOS, and even QNX for dial-up.

Jak,
Hey, glad to see another BeOS user! I love this OS, ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! You using 5.0?
I didn't have a problem with the internet thing but that is due to I use a proxy (linux) for that.
Enjoy your new OS, let me know if you have any questions!

I loved it till I couldn't install a yamaha 754 chipset card on my athlon setup and also found that it doesn't fully support athlons or durons. Beos is great as an OS but hardware wise is now dated. This focus shift hasn't really done them much good.

Does AOL still use IPX/SPX for dial-up accounts? If so, then just add the proper DNS information (as collected with winipcfg.exe), then link IPX/SPX to the dial-up adapter. You will also need to configure the authentification procedure, but I am unaware of AOL's standard in regards to this issue. This is more or less a generic response for most any OS. I would provide a more clear response, but I've only dealt with TCP/IP for BeOS at this point.

Good Luck,
