G-Force 4 64mb Mx 440 AGP

I just bought the video card listed in the subject field and know when I play my games none of them work. I can play them for a little while but them they just lock up my pc and I have to hit the reset button. Before I had the G-Force 2 64mb and my games like battlefield 1942 and my DFBHD demo would play fine then. I installed my new video card just how it said to and then after that I went and updated all of the drivers but it still locks up.

If it doesn't lock up before you start pushing it with 3D games etc then sounds like something is heating up, probably the GPU or memory on the video card. If you have a temperature sensor on the video card then check the reading. You might also want to check you have the video card properly seated in the AGP slot. Also check your CPU temp. The video card will be pulling more power as well so tell us what power supply you have, especially the make of the power supply not simply the wattage.

A couple of questions:

First, what are your system specs?

That can help diagnose things. For example some of the SiS 645 chipset motherboards have issues with AGP 8X, which some of the newer Gf4 MX 440's support.

Also Nvidia cards do draw a lot of power and if you were really pushing the PSU the difference from a Gf2MX may have put it over the edge.

Have you tried running it with an open case? Not only will this cool the system, but you can also see if the fan on your video card is turning. If that fan's not moving that could be the culprit right there.

I had the same problems with my geforce 4 mx440SE, one both a ECS K7S5A and a ECS K7SEM motherboard, and on windows 98, and windows XP pro... I finally solved it by locating the 42.86 drivers on www.guru3d.com and installing those, is absolutely rock-solid now.. just a possibility
