first off im sorry if others already have threads like this.. ^_^

for the past 6 months (cant remember past then maybe too much posting on the internet about the infinate problems with my computer....) about 99% of my email has been in the following groups:
1.adult (porn) mail about 87%
2.morgage or debt consolodation 5%
3.chain letters 5%
4."spy on your kids" how-to mail 1%
5.ive been approved! (lol) 1%

im 16, i dont think i need a morgage, and i dont need to spy on my kids (no kids yet)although someday....and im not into adult sites.........

the rest has unfortunately been sympothy mail from my friends when i alert them about me not getting "real" email.... do people still get good email or is it a thing of the past....?

I know where ya'r coming from. The bulk of my mail is generated due to mass distribution lists. Even my once before unknown personal accounts for only family and friends have been recently targeted. Luckily my primary ISP is providing better server-side spam filtering, mainly impart to end-user efforts to develop effective addressing and text filters.

The worst part is that I know receive more spam mail through email as compared to my freuqented Usenet newgroups!

BTW, check out how SysOpt members deal with spammers:

Thanks for the link.

Luckily since i have multiple emails for various needs i am not bombarded with any spam.

I only get spam on some of my hotmail add's, but i hardly ever use those so its not such a problem luckily.

The best thing to do is report the Spam to the senders ISP and request their account be terminated for breaking the law! It does work!

I never received any spam in my main email account. For my Hotmail account that's another story...

One thing that contributes is to configure your browser not to send your email address as an anonymous password.

This is interesting, just in the past month, all of a sudden several credit card companies, debt consolidation comp, mortgage companies, and adult sites have been sending frequent email to my hotmail account! I've used Hotmail's Spam Blocker and inbox protector to sift through the **** and get rid of it, but they just go under a diffent name, sometimes from the same ISP.

I use Hotmail as my main email since I recently dropped my ISP, Earthlink, so now I rely soley on Hotmail...not smart I know!

So if anyone has any cracks or tips I can use to prevent this incessant BS Email, please share.

sorry socalgal i didnt think of it as tech
:*(

my main reason for so much spam is proabbly because i have aol, it is so hard to block certain addresses because of the limited options and there are so many different people who send me the spam

I actually get more "real emails" than spam of any kind. I'm x-tremely carefull where I put my email, and IF I REALLY need to put it somewhere , if I'm even 1 % unsure, I give my "who cares"-email, a hotmail... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif Works fine. I have Three enail account in active use, one for work (quite secret), one for "home-use" to my friends and so on, and one wich is visible for instance at my webpage. I really think I'm qite lucky, but one have to be carefull these days. ( Hey, I reallly work in security-busines... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif )
