North Korea has an overwhelmingly powerful military that has more special ops than even the US has. North Korea could easily march over South Korea like the Germans did over Poland.

Recently there has been overwhelming support for the US to leave South Korea and the South Koreans have held many protests, demonstrations and even tried to attack US military installments. The current South Korean president based much of his campaign on getting the Americans out of South Korea.

Do you think the US should just leave South Korea and watch North Korea roll over the south as a form of poetic justice in 'i told ya so'?

Irony is always fascinating :D

Oh NO! How could we possibly live without Samsung and Goldstar?
Seriously though, Korea has been a tremendous drain on US resources since 1950īs. Time to pull out and let the ingrates fend for themselves.

And loose Daewoo?!? Oh the agony!

There has been opposition to US forces being in S. Korea since the majority of hostilities ceased. They have rallies and protests weekly in Seoul, and the demographics will tell you that only the minority thirty percent are the ones protesting.

an overwhelming YES here. Lets put those 36,000 troops to use in our own defense, not for some country that doesnt even want us there. I'm sick of us having to be the protectors of the world.

AllGamer can you substantiate the suggestion that Korea actually has nukes? They have a nuclear program yes but it has not been determined that they have nuclear weapons; yet.......

Maybe South Korea should hold a referendum seeing whether US forces should leave or not, that would really show which way the support is :)
If the vote passed for the US to leave, the US would probably even pay for the cost of the referendum because keeping the military there is extremely expensive; leaving would save billions per year ;)

Im sure we'd blow the money on somethin else, probably even more stupid.

maybe they'll use it to build more underground and deep sea bases

they should use those to put into the space program instead

some more public and not in the dark ares of the Gov ;)

Absolutely not! We need the troops there for stability in the region. The press has a tendency to overdramatize stories that go along with their biased, left leaning views. What you dont hear about are the demonstrations in favor of US presence in the region.

Maybe there's a solution. include South Korea as part of NATO. If North Korea attacked, they would get counter-attacked by not only the US but by the rest of the world. :)

NATO= North Atlantic Treaty Organization

South Korea is part of SEATO. South East Asia Treaty Organization.

The demonstrations in favor of the US was on all the major news but it was many times smaller than the ones opposed to us being there.

The US presense there is more symbolic of anything anyways. Those 36,000 troops would get massacred by the north koreans in a barriage of artiliary in the first couple days. They are more there just to say "the US is here and watching and if you attack our soldiers it means war".

Our troops being there isnt' preventing this whole nuclear mess now so there is really no need to keep that many there.

Our government sure knows how to blow a lot of money.

although South Korea is already part of SEATO, it could be part of NATO too couldn't it? Many countries in East Europe are now part of NATO even though they're no anywhere near the Atlantic :D

NATO is like the new UN, it means business but it's not about internationalism, it's about collective security :)

Yeah should just be NETO, (north equatorial treaty organization). That'll cover all of em. Then there can be SETO (name obvious)

:D

Then 1 day NETO and SETO will fight each other. The north will win and we will rule the earth :D

why not just abolish the World Trade Organization then create the World Treaty Organization ;)

We discussed this at work...

The US should pull out of everywhere, South Korea, Afganistan, Turkey, Kuwait, Italy, Germany...EVERYWHERE! Except the UK.

Then the US should pull all of it's forces back to defend it's borders and leave bases in the UK and Diego Garcia. Setting up a mutual defense agreement with the British and Canadians.

Set up trade only with the UK and buy British or US products only, allow everyone to kill each other off and dare anyone to even glance our way. Screw stability.

If there was ever a time to let the Korean people vote, now is the time. If the US pulls out, foreign investment will too and S. Korea will collapse into the arms of the North. I really would like to ask the S. Koreans to put up or shut up.
