Hi

I'm having a difference of opinion with my boss. At work we have an NT network 8 PC connected to the server. On every other network I have come across, the server has been the most powerful machine. Its a 266 Pentium with 262 Mb of ram (An IBM) it has 12.5 Gb of hard drive space (In 2 drives) of which 1.1 Gb is free. He says that as you only use the server when you are loading files from it or accessing the internet, the fact its a 266 does not matter. My gut feel is that it must in some way slow everybody down, but a would like some real opinions rather than my 'gut feel'

thanks for any advice

kev :)

Of course a slow server will slow everyone else down, but who can convince your boss?

the server is your bottleneck. it's like mail call at summer camp. everyone wants to get their letter, but the rate determining factor is the camp counselor. if he can only read 5 names a minute, it'll take forever for you to get your mail. if he can read 100 names per minute, everyone will get their mail much faster.
