attempting to install brand new Linksys "g" wireless router with Verizon DSL..so i can access the cable dsl service from my other dektop and notebook computers.
The Linksys gives an error message "cant connect to device" after it is hooked with he dsl modem and the desktop computer--all indicator lights/cabling show/are done properly (ie modem and ethernet cables are in proper ports on router etc).
This is using the suppplied instllation cdrom.
Same scenario when try to manually install..
suggestions?...maybe i should return it for a cabled router?
thanx.

how are you trying to connect to this system, wired or wireless? it would be better to go with a wired nic first.
did you set your system to a static IP of 192.168.1.x? you can't use 192.168.1.1 since that is the default router IP. check your system ip with winipcfg (win9x) or ipconfig (2k/xp). if you have a 169.254.x.x IP, you are using APIPA and you won't be able to see the router.

im going to return the wireless system and try a "wired" system as my first attempt..this is probably the better way for a newbie such as me!--IF I can soplve the below (new) probl;em :(
I removed all the Linksys equipment and now---
Verizon DSL service now will not connect to an URL-soooo--
..i emptied the Verizon software and then reinstalled the ethernet card, DSL modem and verizon software--same problem--ie----it connects to verizon server but wont "go" to a URL (internet explorer globe just spins for about 60 seconds and then gives "cant access page message).
Spent two hours with Verizon tech suport--tried everything (checked addresses, winipcfg settings, cables, phone jack, did pings/tracerts..even tried to use their test adress...all to no avail). I suspect an OS (Win ME) issue--so will move all the DSL hatrdware/software to my other computer (has Win XP home) and see what happens...if that fails--ill go back to "dial up" :(
