I have 3 computers (2 desktops running WinME and a Laptop running XP) connected to a LinksysBEFW11S4 Router, and connect to the intenet through a cable modem. Things have run fine for at least a year.
After disconnecting all the cables to move things around I find that I cannot access the internet on any computer through the LAN, although file sharing works fine, so I know the router is working.
I can hook up the computers individually directly to the cable modem and have internet access. It's only when I try to set it up through the router that it doesn't work.
I know I'm missing something silly here, but for the life of me I can't figure it out.

Delete all of the network drivers and software and start from scratch. Reset the router and add one computer at a time till you are back up and running.

sounds like you forgot to have your router get a renew the IP
try Flashing it with a new Router BIOS

Thanks for the prompt replies. I only had a chance today to get a crack at this.
I removed all the software and drivers and reinstalled, along with resetting the router.
Good news is my primary desktop can accsess the internet through the router.
Bad news is that nothing else works on the other computers. No file sharing, no ics.
I even tried Linksys tech support tonite. Unfortunately, the guys accent was so thick I spent 30 minutes and got nothing out of it other than his recommendation to upgrade the firmware. I guess I'll start there tomorrow.
Any more tips would be appreciated.

Another idea is that if you can get one computer going you can get internet through making a proxy server for the others, good idea for security too. But this only ducks the real problem. good luck.

No need
if 1 out of all the computer WORKs throught the ROUTER
every other one should work too
WHICH MEANs....
he has a TCP/IP configuration problem with the other ones

which clients are having problems, wired or wireless? if you reset the router, it would have reset the WEP settings too. You should double check that. Also if you set up static IPs, resetting the router would re-enable DHCP.

actually it depends on the router when it comes to RESET
in our Linksys when you RESET, it doesn't do a full reset, just soft reset
to do a FULL RESET, on the linksys you have to hold it for like 5 Sec until the red lights come up
then it loads the FACTORY defaults

I'm still only able to use the first desktop. I stopped worrying about the wireless connection right now because the second desktop should be easier to reconnect because it's virtually identical to the first.
I've compared settings between the two and nothing looks different. Altough I notice that the "logon for microsoft networking" box comes up when I start the functioning computer but not the other. This is really puzzling because I haven't changed any setting in the second computer.
And ideas as to what other setting I could compare?

And now things get really goofy.
I put a regular network card into my laptop and hardwired it to the router.
After running the config utility I can now access the 2nd desktop! (the one that doesn't have internet access)
So now I have all 3 computers hardwired into the router. Computer 1 has internet access and cannot access my home network. The laptop doesn't have internet access but can share files with the 2nd desktop. The second desktop can share files with the laptop, but also cannot access the internet.
GOT IT!?
I'm now thoroughly confused.:x

Hey Tom, I feel for ya. I recognize one of your symptoms: ...the "logon for microsoft networking" box comes up when I start the functioning computer but not the other. This has to do with 'Client for Microsoft Windows' , top on the list of the Configuration tab after right-clicking 'My Network Places' from the desktop. I think you want to select Logon and restore network connections after deselecting Log onto Windows NT domain. <-- That's what prompts you for a passsword.

somebody probably ran through this, but I'm too lazy to read all the previous posts.
are all system set to obtain IP automatically?
are they all in the same workgroup?
did you add the usernames and passwords from the other computers to the xp system?
did you disable the xp firewall?
run winipcfg on the win9x systems and ipconfig /all from a command prompt on the xp system. what IPs are you getting? if you left the router at the default settings, then you should be getting IPs in the 192.168.1.x range.
