Is there a maximum length for a usb cable? I bought a 16 footer for my printer but have not tried it yet. Thought I read somewhere there is a limit.

USB 2.0 Cable length is 5m max (16.5 ft) MAX, same as USB 1.0 / 1.1.

I believe it's 5 meters (about 16.4 feet) for both USB and USB 2.0, but just like network, printer, and IDE cables, I think it's more of a guideline to ensure proper operation than an actual barrier.

I use a 9 footer for my scanner - no problem.
