Argh! That AlcaSmell is a POS! Throw it back in the ocean!

Seriously - you should contact BellSouth and ask for an Ethernet modem. It will be a lot more reliable.

If you just installed a new USB device, the USB bus has run out of bandwidth. If you have front USB ports, try plugging in there. Plug in anywhere but where it is now.

Open System Information (MSINFO32.EXE) and navigate to Hardware Resources > IRQs. Click anywhere in the right pane and then press CTRL-A and then CTRL-C. You have copied that data to the clipboard. Paste that data in a reply here.

The Alcatel and VIA don't get along. Download and install the 4in1 drivers:

Is the second USB header on the motherboard connected and in use?

The 2Wire 1000s and 1000w suck. I've setup some of those and I hate the fact that XP User have to use software to log on their dsl, and that they give more trouble than a cheap ethernet modem.

The 1000s is at a retail of $250 but they give it to you for $150, and the 1000w is at a retail of $450, but they slash the price to $199. And SBC (including Bell South) give you the 1000s for free.

I wouldn't even want the modem if they paid me to get it. Even if this thing has an ethernet rj-45 jack in it, you still need their software to log into your dsl connection.

I've seen alot of problems with 2Wire and all usb modems.

Try to get SBC to exchange your usb modem to an Ethernet modem, preferablyt he SpeedStream 5360. That's what they gave me when I first signed up with their dsl services, and it's has been working great ever since. No special software needed unless you are in windows 95/98/98se/me/2000. XP has a built in PPPoE Dialer.

So you should try and get the to swap for a different modem. the speedstream 5360 is great.
