My friend recently purchased a Ricoh 4X/4X/20X CD-RW SCSI Drive and everything is working fine. My problem is that after he burns a CD, my regular CDROM drive cannot read it but his Ricoh CD-RW can. I have a Toshiba XM-6102B CDROM Drive. Is there anyway i can get a newer mscdex.exe driver or something so my regular CDROM drive can read the burned CDs? Please help. Thanks.

Propiatary? huh?
Hmm
I have a Sony CD-r And write my CD's using CD right!
I can read it on my CD-r, my Ma****a (sp) 24x and my Cyberdrive 44x (which really sucks) My friend cant read it on his Quad tho..I bet older drives just cant read CD-r's (not a mscdex driver problem...I think it uses different lasers than newer models so it cant read the blue/green surface. Your SOL til you get a new CD/DVD drive...

There are a number of compatibility issues associated with CD-RW. First and foremost is the fact that CD-RW media are not backward-compatible with many regular CD-ROM drives. Due to the lower reflectivity of the CD-RW media, regular drives can have problems reading them. In essence, the CD-RW media just does not emulate the pits and lands of a regular pressed CD well enough to fool a standard reader.

Just recently did regular CD-ROM drives start being able to read all media, except for DVD's of course. I just purchased one at my computer show for 42 bucks, a 50x and its really fast and can read anything I put in there, CDr's and CDRW's. I would look into getting a newer and faster CDrom drive so you can read all media.
