I got two systems here networked. One is XP Pro and the second is Win 2kPro. The second machine can see and communicate with the XP. I'm OK there. Now when I try to access the Win2k machine FROM the XP machine, XP asks for a password. I don't have any password set up because I'm the ONLY user.

Why is it asking me for a password and HOW do I get the password thing disabled??

Thanks

You need to add your XP username in Win2K's Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Users and Groups. Right-click > New > User. If you don't have a password in XP, you should! Someone can hack in or plant a trojan and take over the Admin account and demote you to a simple user on your own PC.

If you insist on not using a password, don't enter one when creating the user on Win2K.

Bill,

I'm setting passwords in my XP system, but it tells me that if I do I'm going to lose data. Stuff like stored info from email and things.

Do I go ahead and set the passwords anyway??

To fix my problem I had to put the W2k user INTO XP!! All is well now. I created a fake file, moved it and deleted it from both systems. So I'm good to go there. ;)

I'm setting password for the Admin and the user too in XP! Is this OK??

Thanks;)
