My dauthers computer in a P-II 350 and I put a Dlink DWL-520+ wireless PCI card in it. I worked fine for about 30 minutes then it froze up the whole computer. I have a laptop with a wireless DWL-650 (Dlink) PCMCIA card and it works fine. My Router is a Dlink DI-614+.
Now it might work for 1 or two minutes and sometimes it will not completely boot the computer. I can remove the card and everything is happy. This is confusing me and I could use some help.
Her computer specs are:
Motherboard is a Atrend ATC 6240V
Processor: P-II 350
Memory 512 Meg
Video card: S3 Virge PCI
Old ISA SiS Audio card
1.6 Gig HD
Standard 32X CDROM
Standard floppy Drive.
Currently no USB devises and printer is not connected

Anyone have any ideas.
Thanks

You forgot the Windows version.

Update the drivers for the card from the web site.

http://support.dlink.com/downloads/

Try moving it to another slot - switch if you must.

Finally, update the BIOS for the motherboard.

BIOS here:

ftp://ftp.univ-lille1.fr/pub/vendor/atrend/Bios/Motherboard/Slot_1/

Check your board revision - there are 1.0 and 2.0 versions.

Oh - and welcome to SysOpt!

Sorry, The operating system is 98SE.
I have tried all the PCI slots with the same results.
I don't know which version of board I have. I only know it is a VIA Apollo Pro133 chipset. (693A & 596B)
The Bios string is 693A-596B-977-624001C-QE

I have never flashed a Bios before. I don't know how, If that is what it comes down to.

Open the case and look at the board. It should have a revision number on it next to the model number.

Have you updated the drivers for the card from D-Link? Have you installed the latest VIA 4in1 drivers?

It's a -01 mainboard.
I did update the drivers for the Dlink card. Though I have heard some rumors about old drivers not being properly overwritten.
Do you know anything about this?
I downloaded the new 4 in 1 driver and I will update that in a little while and let you know how that goes.
Thanks for the help so far.

Open My Computer. Pop a floppy in the A drive. Right-click the drive and select Format. Select Copy system files only.

You now have a bootable floppy.

BIOS here:

ftp://ftp.univ-lille1.fr/pub/vendor/atrend/Bios(NEW)/Motherboard/ATC-6240V%20(VIA)/6240V-01/

Get the BIN file and copy it to the floppy. Rename it NEWBIOS.BIN.

You will need to determine if it's an Award or AMI BIOS. It should say each time you start.

Award:

ftp://ftp.univ-lille1.fr/pub/vendor/atrend/Utilities/BIOS/AWDFLASH.EXE

AMI:

ftp://ftp.univ-lille1.fr/pub/vendor/atrend/Utilities/BIOS/AMIFlash812.exe

I think it's Award. Copy the AWDFLASH file to the floppy if so. Reboot with the floppy in place and type AWDFLASH. When asked the file name, type in NEWBIOS.BIN and let her rip.

I updated the Bois and installed the new VIA 4 in 1 drivers and now when the card is installed the computer gives me a blank screen. I remove the card and it boots fine.

Return it. It's defective.

I wanted to let everyone know that I solved the Dlink wireless problem. I traded it in on a Linksys card.
After two different attempts and a trip to the local repair shop. It was a unanimous chiose to try a Linksys card. The Dlink was incompatible even though it was suppose to work according to documentation. Popped the Linksys in and it worked the first time. Thanks for all the advise.
