I've been looking at places that will build a system to my specs. I came across a company called AmeriComp which has what I want. Their prices seem to be very competitive with other part houses. I've looked in reseller rating, but did not see a listing. Has anyone had any dealings with this company. In the searching that I've done, I've found a lot of links to their site but no comments. Their home page says they have been in business since approx 1990 and serve fortune 500 companies.

You would be much better off finding a local small computer shop to build your system. That way, any problems that arise, you have local support, not some dweeb on the other end of a phone.
Don't go to someone that deals in TVs, stereos, furniture or washing machines, go to a computer only shop.
Get to know the tech, talk, listen, and ask lots of questions.
Cheers, Jim

Talk to everyone you know who has a computer. One of them is either a system builder or knows someone who is.

I like to shop at www.pricewatch.com (http://www.pricewatch.com) http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I'm getting ready to build my own system and have been checking pricewatch pretty well daily. I've also been checking the boards here and at tomshardware. I stumbled across this site (AmeriComp) and they wanted only approx $50 more for them building the system than pricing the components out on pricewatch. For that little of price I would be willing to let someone else do the assembly along as I get to choose the components. Still haven't found much out on them. If I do go with them I will definately use the old credit card which would give me a little protection.

You have to be careful shopping on Price Watch. Some of the vendors their will rape you with high shipping charges. I payed $47.00 shipping on 2 keyboards and 3 mice once. Just make sure you check out the shipping charges first.

Americomp has had 82 complaints filed against them with the BBB in the last 36 months. 23 complaints in the last 12 months. That is probably only a fraction of what they deserved. I had nothing but very bad experiences with this poorly run company.
