Has anyone else ran an MS intellimouse explorer? I got one for Christmas. It was a USB model, with a ps2 adapter. I thought it was just the trick - for a little while. Performance degraded fairly quickly, and finally nothing!
The present was bought at Wal Mart, but of course, it was a present. So, I got no receipt.
They wouldn't take it back, and MS will not respond to my repeated e-mails.
So, there I am. Has anyone had a negative experience with these critters?

I have the same mouse, and it's amazing. I've had it since Christmas, too, and it still works perfectly. That stinks that you got a bad one, and **** MS for not replying. Also, don't let this bad experience make you hate Optical mice from MS. I love not having to clean them, and they always work flawlessly.
Same here, MS IntelliMouse Explorer USB optical, 4 months without trouble, try to clean the sensor with something soft (and gentle http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif )

Been there , done that
If you cant get a new one from Microsoft then open it up, slice open the wires where it joins the mouse about 1/2 inch, get rid of tin foil, spread wires then tuck inside the mouse, SILICONE a big blob where the wires go into the mouse if its now working, and it will last MUCH longer now http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif .
I got a new one from them and still have my old one [fixed] by doing that but I went through 4 mice with the same prob before I made my own fix!
PS Microsoft knows about this problem http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
just get the logitech mouse. i have it and its cheaper than ms infrared mouse. got the same attachment adapter as you. whats to lose?

I also have the Logitech mouseman Optical. Got it back in September still works fine. If the computer is left on overnight (downloading, defragging, etc) I will unplug the mouse to turn off the LED and save a little strain on it. I use it as PS/2 but it is actually a USB mouse.
I also have a MS Intellimouse Optical (HARD to find). It's the exact same shape as the classic Intellimouse but optical. It's been operational for just shy of a year no probs, although this Logitech one gets far more usage.

Hey 1OldFart, I'll give it a try after work tonight.
Thanks. But I doubt I'll ever hear from MS, just not holding out any hope on that one.
Take care,
BT

Hey 1OldFart, that's amazing! I tried your fix and WOW! I really owe you one guy!
By the way, MS hasn't responded to my e-mail, not at all. Funny, but if I'd been wanting to buy something, one of Billy G's associates would have called me up by now, huh?
Thanks again,

I've had the Explorer for about 1 year and 5 months. Never, ever have had a problem with it. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
Glad you got it working, man.

Just make sure you put the Big Blob of silicone where the wire attaches to mouse to prevent strain/bending and all will be happy http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif -not pretty though
Glad I could help http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
