I've flashed the bios dozens of times. however, if you start running into problems, it would be a good idea to do a reset. ukulele 02-06-2003, 05:42 PM If it went OK then your computer should be OK. It is always best to clear CMOS first because some options might change and the new BIOS might give you unexpected problems. AllGamer 02-06-2003, 05:47 PM Actually after a few times of not doing it, i found out Indeed it's best to do it why? cuz like you most of the time i just loaded new BIOS and restarted then one day due some other reason i had to clear the CMOS to try something and WOW! to my surprise a Pile Load of new Options and Features were enabled and yeah that was noted in the release notes, but as usual you never care to read that :p so after a few of those times, now i made it a habit of Clearing the CMOS after Flashing a new BIOS to make sure all the new features, and options shows in the screen Some of it which would have Saved me to do the original Clear Cmos i was doing ;) :p :t Byte Doctor 02-08-2003, 12:14 AM I agree with AllGamer, it's always best to clear the CMOS and set it up again after a flash. In addition to the reasons AllGamer gave, clearing the CMOS will also make sure you don't have any random settings in the new options. Bottom line, it only takes a minute to do & re-set everything up, and it can keep you from having headaches. Regards, Byte Doctor krazefinn 02-08-2003, 01:29 AM One other (somewhat related ) topic involves using a ups to ensure clean uninterupted power. Not only clearing cmos good, but ensure both vbr bootscan disabled, and update cmos enabled. Ued to be some ld boards also required disabling (?byte merge, pos other bios settings) to allow problem-free update. Some alos do not study readme file to ensure correct version/revision chosen. Jimstep 02-08-2003, 05:13 AM I've flashed my bios but have never cleared the cmos afterward. There are options that were added and other options that changed. It is good to go back over the options to make sure they are set they way you want them. SysOpt.com
