I am using Win XP home edition, 120 gb HD, cable modem with router and IE6. My Temp Internet File folder is 596 mb. Although I have plenty of HD space isn't this a bit large? If I deleted the files and cookies and started over what would be the results? Do I need to clean out this folder and limit the size to 200 or 300 mb?:)

Yes, it is a bit large. When I was working for an ISP tech support, we always suggested keeping the temp files size to less than 10 megs. With higher end systems, you won't notice it, but it will slow your system down. Also, by having the file size lower, you don't need to worry to much about cleaning the folder out. If you manage to fill the folder, the oldest stuff will be overwritten with the newer stuff. If you delete the files, anytime you visit a website you been to before, it will take a little longer to load as the cached copy is gone. Heaven forbid you are using a 28.8k modem. Most people don't even noticed. Also if you delete the cookies, any website that you log into such as syspot.com, you will have to log into again. Any website in which you set your preferance such as msnbc.com, those changes will be lost as well.
Hopes this helps.

The Temporary Internet Files hold the files of websites you have visited so that they can be read off-line. By getting rid of the huge number of them, you will not be able to access them unless you open them first and use the File => Save as option to save the files to a folder of your choice.
