I was watching the Screen Savers on Tech TV today and they had Kyle Bennett of HardOCP fame on.

After looking at the GfFX5800 Ultra and the Radeon 9700 Pro, he suggested people either save for R350/NV35, or buy something like a 9500 Pro.

From this, and the recent spate of reviews I was wondering if the 9500 Pro is going to take the Ti4200's place as the undisputed king of price/performance videocards.

I'd take a Radeon 9500 Pro over a Geforce 4 TI 4200 any day

:D

is true, just get whatever you can afford now and get something better later

this is a never ending Vice, so just get what you need

right now 9500 is doing better than 4200

i've been an nvida fan but i recently purchased a new 9500 pro 128mb (cost reasons) for my new system. I was sceptic at first but now am very pleased. nvidia may have better tweaking and o/c capabitlies but my 9500 runs cooler when o/c'd and less trouble to keep up with drivers and what not...

I have a 9500 Pro as well, the first non-Nvidia card to grace my system since 1998.

It was a great buy for the buck.

i also have a 9000 pro 128mb. it's not as fast but or have the same capabilites. it too though runs cool when o/c'd. both cards are great for the money.

Crank up the 9500 PRO anisotropic filtering and antialiasing and it's goodbye ti-4200/4400/4600.

Great card at a great price.

Yes and no. The 9000 and the 9100 (remarked 8500LE) are both dx 8.1 the rest of the 9xxx series is dx 9.

from all the benchmarks and reviews ive read, the 9500 pro owns the Ti4200. im getting a 128mb 9500 pro in 30 days when I get paid :) It has even out scored the 42008x marginally :)

I say its amazing for the price. the non-pro isnt quite as good, a fair few cutbacks.

then again, here's me with my 9000 non-pro :(

i've heard reports that the 64mb version of the 9500 is better in ways than the 128mb. i found the reports on the net.. can't remember where though

The 64mb version of the Non-Pro isn't better than the 128mb version. It can't be modded to a 9700 even if you want to take the chance as the additional pipes aren't connected to the RAM.

As to peformance on the 9500 Pro; when I ran my 3DMark score on their result browser, I ended up with 81% of the performance of a 9700, and 102% of the performance of a Ti4600 on a comparable platform (1800+ with 256MB of DDR). I was happy.

i just said that i read somewhere at one of these sites about the 64 being better than the 128.

i didn't say i agrred with it.

i know the capabilites of both
i have a 9500 pro & 9000 pro both 128mb. both are good cards.

i was waiting for someone to to jump in and confirm it either way....

$400 for the card is a little steep. It will drop down to $300 in 2 months, then 200 in 5 months. In one year it will be obsolete.
