Be advised that the capacitors can hold a charge for more than "a few days". Try months. Unless you know how to discharge the capacitors with a screw driver before openning the case, don't. Even doing this does not discharge the CRT in the monitor itself, and should only be done by an experienced tech trained to fix monitors.

Sounds like they were fried by lightning.

The picture shouldn't be shrinking as the monitor heats up. You can try making the picture initially larger to compensate. Yes, you can do this with the internal contols. Check out the sci.electronics.repair faq for some guidance.

Oh yeah... and be careful! You don't want to end up in the hospital... or worse!

I have two 17" monitors that the picture gets smaller when they heat up like they need to inlagered but when you do this they are all they way out,if you now what I mean. Now I now and understand how dangerous messing with a monitor can be,I understand that they can keep a charge for a few days, but one has been unplugged for a month or so, and Iwant to crack the case and fix it but I need some help on what to do.I have been told there are some knobs or something in the back when you open it and you can get the pix to increase like thaty plesae give some direction...SIC...
