You know how when you install a trial program it leaves something in the registry. So if you uninstall and install again it knows it's been there before. How can I find/erase that something?

i'm not too adept in the registry, but if it's a program that was installed, after you uninstall it.hit run/regedit, once inside look under hkey_local_machine, click the + sign next to software and the program may be listed there..

or hkey_current_user, same as above

just to be safe i should say, i've only done this to be tidy and get rid of things i knew were long gone..whether or not it is actually the fix for your situation i dont know...(big help huh)

As big_block said, a regedit is needed. Do a search when you are in regedit for the program you uninstalled, and delete all references. To be safe, you should always back up the reg before fooling with it.

I do this lots of time, mostly to remove incorrect program settings and such. You need to know the name of the comapany which makes the software first. Then run regedit and open hkey_local_machine/software. Find the name of the company. To remove all traces of the software, delete the entire key. If it's not there, it may be under hkey_local_user, but they rarely are. And as always, be sure to backup the registry first. In regedit, goto File/Export Registry and save the registry somewere. It's best to do it somewere easily accessible in DOS because you never know if your going to screw it up or not.
