I read the article at Tom's Hardware that brought up keyboards and was wondering what sort of computer pianos we all use.
Personally I am a big fan of this Gateway AnyKey keyboard that came with our Gateway 486/50. Quiet, feels great, big, and has a buncha extra cool things like programmable macros, F keys on the side, and an 8-direction directional pad (diagonals).
The only problems with it are that it doesn't have W95 keys (Ctrl+Esc works fine for me though) and it's the old-school large connector style (but I have a nice converter). One of these days I'm gonna go to the Country Store and see if I can't pick myself up a newer version of this keyboard. It's great.

I have a real old-school IBM-style "click" keyboard. Easily 10-12 years old now. I'll never give it up. They don't make keyboards like this anymore. The click keys are great for typing. Nothing I hate more than a mushy, soft, quiet keyboard.
Hello,
You are a lucky OutPatient. I left the keyboard like that in my hometown. Maybe, one day I will pickup it.
This moment I am using BTC 9000 A. Nothing fancy.

Outpatient, I've got an IBM keyboard too... the old style clicking type, with just the right amount of feedback. It was built in 1993 and it still feels like new. Using this keyboard just feels right... perfect amount of feedback. And it's built like a tank too.
It's a REAL shame that keyboards today use the mushy plastic membrane keys. They don't even last maybe two years before the oft-used keys start to break. Even IBM is making them like that now. What a shame.. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

IBM keyboard made in 1987. I also gave away the Compaq kb at the office and found an IBM to use there also. I think IBM has won this poll. I do have to say that I am probably happier than my co-workers. I haven't had outright complaints but they do say "Chap is here working" when they hear my clicking.

MS Natural Keyboard Elite - 4 of em! Took some time to get used to the curvy, split board, but it was worth it.

Old IBM clunker. Weighs about 50lbs (maybe less http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif) and chord snaps onto board like phoneline. And coiled like phoneline. Also key covers pop off for cleaning. I picked up a couple about 5 years ago for $25 each.

Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite.
Surprisingly, I made the adjustment to the split keyboard pretty easily. Typing is like riding a bicycle, you never forget once you've learned! I actually gained a good 20-30 WPM when I switched to this keyboard.

MS Internet Pro. Cheaper than Elite pro, and not as hard to adapt to normal keyboards away from my comp. USB's are real nice, and price aint bad either.
Had an natural elite, and I liked it better for typing, but I work on to many other comps than my own and my fingers get confused.

Oh, and wing7788, this topic has now been very productive...for me at least. I now have a source of a possible new keyboard. That's something I didn't know existed until now.
BUT, if you're still wondering what this topic is for, I would say it's for FUN. That's all. Nothing wrong with a little fun now & then.

Greetings!
Thank you Outpatient for enlightening me on this one. At least from my end here, I didn't know that there were that many keyboards brands available. All I know is that they look pretty much the same and should function similarly.
But I guess, as what I have pointed out on other polls, this poll is kinda useless when no one tabulates the results. I guess that's the reason why they called it a POLL since you have to tabulate and rank each and every answer. If the author of the thread does not do this, then the topic should not have been a POLL in the first place. But then again, its all semantics...
Regards.

Two years ago - there was a CompUsa grand-opening around here. I picked up a keyboard for $1.29. I've used it ever since - no problems. I also picked up a mouse for 0.25 - but the cord was really short - so I didn't use it for long.
Ken
I'm not sure where the one I use came from, but I've hung onto it primarily because it has a full size enter key! Seems most of the ones available today have the small enter key, and those just won't do for fat-fingered types like myself.
OuT: Believe it or not, a lot of the keyboards they sell here in Japan are the "clicky" type. But, I bought a really sweet looking (non-clicky type) board a while back, and some of the keys are mislabeled! One email with that thing about drove me buggy so, I'm back on "old faithful".

I'm now using a Logitech basic keyboard.
My favorite was my first one, a Keytronic. I miss it.

Logitech cordless desktop and mouse for me, the NON-ergo design. Good weight, doesnt "bend" when typing, and even though it doesnt "click", it does have good pressure on the keys.
I tried the ergo but it drove me nuts. Definately NOT good for hunter/peckers!! lol
Have gotten i8042 errors on several NTworkstations with Logitech software though. Removed the drivers and both the keyboard and mouse still work, with no errors. hmmm.....
Old BTC keyboard, good kb but the keys have started making really annoying squeaky noises. And the backslash key dosent work anymore. It came off a 486sx, which has the kb i bought to put on this pc when i broke my last one. The one i got to relpace it was wierd, it was an AT with win98 power mangemant keys, games didnt seem to recognize the arrow keys peoperly.

I use a CTP Worx - Paid about $20 Cdn.
The thing I like the most about it is the fact that it has survived all the key poundings I've given it.
Just pop the keys back on and away I go.
(I have a slow connection > http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif and tend to get a little carried away when playing UT)

I've got the MS Natural Keyboard Pro as well. The split-key style has really helped my shoulders and wrists. In fact, I have a hard time typing on standard 104-key keyboards now. And the extra USB ports are really helpful too. The other bonus is that Win2k already has the software to operate the hotkeys above the function keys. So i didn't even have to install the software to use it. Oh yeah, one more thing: the screen capture function it comes with kicks ****!!!

I have this keyboard: http://www.tekcom.net/keyboard/keyboard.htm . It has a bunch of programmble hotkeys, sleep/wake up keys, one to turn the computer off (I once pushed it accidentally) and an extra LED that lights up when IE is running.
I have my old Mitsumi Win95 keyboard on another computer.

I have the MS Internet Pro USB. Its great for LANing because it has the two-port USB hub in the back that I can plug my USB mouse into, plus the shortcut keys are nice too. And you can't beat the split-board for comfort when typing. I don't know how I ever got around without one.

On this computer I have an old clicky keyboard that came with my packard bell 486 with a curly cord and none of those evil windows keys. I also have cheap-o wireless keyboard which I sometimes use, but I prefer this old one. Both have been re-keyed to use the dvorak keymap which has really increased my typing speed.
