I have an HP 8200e external USB writer that I'm trying to use with Nero 5.5 in WinXP. Nero wouldn't recognize the drive as a writer (the HP doesn't show in Nero's list of available device). I have updated the driver of the HP, but still no luck.
This seems strange because with Win98, the Nero-HP combination used to work. I don't want to go back to Win 98 just because I can't get the writer to work in WinXP.
Will appreciate your help.

Maybe the USB drivers in WinXP has problems
if it worked in Win98+Nero
then it has to Work in WinXP + Nero
so the only place for failue is in the USB drivers
i have a co worker here using NERO in WinXP with a USB Yamaha and it works just fine

Was the version of Nero you have packaged with a another drive? If it was, it will only burn with that drive, but you can use another cdrw as a reader. :(

why not use the software from HP? I have used it on many xp installations for HP CDRW's without any problems, especially when nero or Roxio would not work. But still I feel nero is the best.

i doubt there is a CDR specific software from nero.... when i brought 2 diffrent cd-rs from diffrent companies i got full version nero cds... maybe im just lucky
anyway if u think that is the problem u can always uninstall the version u have an reinstall the demo and c if that helps ...... have u tried reinstalling the drivers from everything from usb drivers to the cdr?

Yes nero is drive specific. The bundled nero you get with a burner will only work with that drive.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.
I did find out that the Nero I'm trying to install is drive specific. (I heard it depends on what serial number you give it. ) Too bad I can't use anymore the Yamaha drive that it came with. At any rate, I fell back to using the HP writer that's part of the bundle.
Again, thanks.
