Hi guys! I want to overclock my CPU and I've got a couple of uestions:
-How can i tell if my processor is coppermine/tualatin, etc?
-what other really specific info do i need??
like I said, it's a PIII, 1ghz. Main memory clock (is that the same thing as FSB??) is running at 100mhz. Can I just up the FSB to 133 to get 1.3ghz out of my cpu? Will this much of an increase require more cooling?? Anybody have any suggestions/comments?? Any help greatly appreciated.

If you up it from 100mhz to 133mhz you chip will be a 1.46ghz. It will not overclock that for. And your chip is a coppermine.:t

In the subject you say its a 1.1ghz

below you say it a 1ghz

what is it?

1ghz PIII starts at a 133bus

the 1.1ghz PIII is a 100bus. (think they had problems with this one)

Tualtian Celerons are 100bus

Tualtian PIII are 133bus.:t

When I start it up, it says something like 1067mhz. So I just rounded it up. The "main memory clock" says it's running at 100mhz. I checked, and I do have 133mhz RAM. However, when I tried changing the jumper settings on my motherboard to make it 133mhz (as per the instruction book), it wouldn't even boot up. Any ideas on how to overclock it?? here's the specs on my machine:
PIII, 1ghz (or 1.1ghz, whatever)
geforce4 440mx
256mb RAM, (133 mhz)
chaintech CT-JA3T motherboard

Any input whatsoever would be greatly appreciated.

my bad, it says "Pentium III 1100mhz (100x11)" when i start it up, NOT 1067mhz.

Good luck getting it up to 133 bus. You may need watercooling or some other extreme cooling system. IF you have good air cooling, slowly raise the fsb and run a demanding game. If you get errors, back off. If all runs fine, go a little higher and repeat.

Its not going to be able to boot at that speed its a .18 micron chip and at 133bus it would be running at 1.46ghz

Wait a minute. Is the FSB set to 133? Check to make sure that any "HCLK-33" settings are set to "HOST CLOCK". The memory could very well be running 33MHz below the FSB speed. If the system is unstable afterward, then try increasing the CAS latency.

There were 1.1GHz tualatin Pentium IIIs, and those could certainly reach 1.46GHz. You would just need a very good motherboard and set of cards to reach 166 FSB.

Do you mean 1.13 ghz CV? I can agree with that (8.5 *133=1.13) but not 1.1 (1100/133=8.27...).

His PIII is 100mhz bus chip. This chip was a coppermine. All tualatins are 133bus if its a PIII.
