Has anyone tried to put a mac/pc hybrid together before? Using pc internals and a G4 case? I an building a new system and am fed up with looking for a cool case at a decent price. The cases on offer that are nice (coolmaster,Lian-Li Aluminium Case PC30) and a few others are very hard to get hold of, if you can get one they are very overpriced in the uk.

The mac motherboard dimensions are quite different from that of atx dimensionns.

I have seen someone who took a g4 mac case and put his pc in there. If you wanted to do that you would have to rig the case by mounting and atx plate in it so you could mount the board etc. Basically if you wanted to do that you would have to do alot of moddding to the case.

Modyfying the case would not be a problem ,will the rom drives fit in the standard places, i assume the basic dimms are the same. are the pci slots the same pattern? thanks for your reply.
Now all i have to do is get hold of a G4 case, cant be to hard.

The drives will fit, they should be standard half-height 5.25" and 3.5" spots. The PCI slots themselves are the same.

DIMMs would be the same.

One thing that could be different is that G4 CPUs generally put out less heat (the G4 cube doesn't have an active heatsink/fan on the CPU) so with a lot of hot components you could have a heat buildup problem with the case closed.

You have a point there, i had a look at the G4 mac`s a while ago and the processors are tiny. If i`m going to go the the trouble i`m sure i can sort out some cooling somewhare.
Who makes the G4 chip is it Motorola?
