I was going to install a new modem on my aunts computer today. I have to say her computer is VERY old. When I restarted it I got a floppy drive error 40.
Has anybody else got this or can someone help me out?
Thanks

This is a common error with new installls on computers with LS120/1.44MB floppy drives. That drive uses an EIDE ribbon cable. A lot of the Compaqs had them from the factory. You need a DOS driver installed first to make them work for initial setup. It is easiest to install a normal floppy drive on the floppy controller, do the install, and then hook up the high capacity drive. Windows PNP should do the rest. I said should, cross your fingers.

Well, try a cable first, if that doesn't do it, most likey the floppy has gone south, they do this with no warning. I've had this error before, it's usually the drive. In one rare instance, it was actually the mobo.
