Thermaltake makes good products. I have their Volcano 9+ and it keeps my XP2400+ running around 26° under full load. Just make sure to use the manual speed control, not the thermal sensor.

If you're looking for a good, but relatively quiet, P4 heatsink, I'd recommend the Vantec Aeroflow. It performs better than even the all copper Volcano 7+. :)

edit - my picture broke itself! Had to fix it. :r

I like the Volcano cu7+. It does good at lower rpm's...less noise.

According to the overclockers.com rating, the Vantec Aeroflow, with its mid-speed fan, performs identically to the Volcano 7+, with its fast fan on the full setting. :p

I'm using Tt Spark 7 on a P4 2.4a and was able to hit 3GHz @ 3500-4000RPM's w/ Artic Silver III. That Vantec looks pretty nice though.

Better air flow at lower speeds? There is always a compromise between base/fin technology and the fan air flow quality. When I run the fan at the 6000rpm's, it is very loud.

I was just saying that the aeroflow is an all-around better heatsink, because it performs equal to the 7+ with a much quieter/slower fan. :p

Exactly. Any heatsink that allows airflow onto the CPU substrate, while having at least a core of copper, is going to be a good performer.

I love my Volcano 9+ and it keeps my OC'd XP2000+ running around 40° under full load- runningUD agent for 10 hours, it never gets above 40
I use the manual speed control amd that keeps the sound down

jrb420, that is quite low for an overclocked amd.......what are your system and room temps please?

Yea, that sounds like your System temp, not your CPU temp.

According to the overclockers.com rating, the V9 with the fan on full is the same as my Thermal Integration V77L and its mid speed fan. Since I get a 40C load, those temps sound about right. :)

Giblet, 40C and 26C are not very close.

Yes that is my CPU temp. And I don't overclock. I never said I did.

Wrong. A heatsink will never be at room temperature capable of performing like that, even with a vantec tornado.

Oh, I thought we were talking about strat, not jrb420. jrb420 must have a funky sensor. :p

gosh gibs I can't make it any clearer :D

yeah the question is is that 26C reading system or cpu? BIG difference depending......

Volcano 9 in automatic, no problems here ....very cool.:D

That's an understandable northbridge temperature, but you'll never get that for your CPU without your room being ice cold.

TT volcano x heatsinks are not really the greatest out there.

I've never understood why they named their heatsinks "volcanos." :p

Hmm.. explication.

Maybe theyre implying that's what your CPU will turn into if you OC it with their HSFs. :p
