I just got windows XP Pro for a new pc im building sometime in Feb (ive never used windows XP before) and i heard there was a process you could do in windows xp pro to hook up your old pc to your new one and transfer all your files to your new pc ...

my questions are

* What kinda hardware would I need to buy to hook both PC's up together ?

* Do both computers need to have windows XP pro ? because my old PC has windows 98

use the files and settings transfer wizard:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306187

that will get your settings. you might as well remove the old hdd and install it in the new computer to transfer big data files. it will be the fastest way.

You can use a home network through a switch or hub.

HDD manufacturer's usually provide a utility with the HDD that can transfer files from the old to the new HDD if it is installed in the new PC.

You should be able to download it if you bought an OEM HDD.
