Let's say I sent an e-mail to another person through Hotmail. Should they be able to allocate my IP address? Is Hotmail a good go if I don't want the reciever to get any of my personal details?

In a word, no. An IP address is assigned by your server. Hotmail would assign their own IP to their users. To my knowledge, (and, as always, I stand to be corrected) The only way anybody could find out your personal info from using a hotmail (or any of the web based email addresses) would be to aquire that from the source..in this case, Hotmail..or, MSN.

The IPs assigned by your server comes from a block of IP addresses assigned to the server (ISP) for their customers.

There is even a way around using your own assigned IP by your server.

Go to this website, and see what is discovered from you everytime you log on to many web sites...then read on, find out how to go thru other free type servers to hide your own assigned IP address.

This works for your browser only, I believe...your home based, email server would use a different block of IP addresses, which is also assigned to your ISP, and can be tracked right to your doorstep.

I'm not going to be such of a loser, but let's say I hate a person and decide to send him a virus though Hotmail. Would I be caught if that is so(let's say he doesn't know my Hotmail address)?

Thanks!

YES!!!!

If they decide to pursue it! Law Enforcement can still track through other means.

Actually hotmail will show your real IP address in the header. Have a look someday.
