Bovon 05-04-2001, 11:46 AM Rob!!...for cats sake, man..give us something to go on. Start of with your system, what all you have installed..not necessarly applications, maybe the OS (Win95,98, 2K, ME...ect.)but video, mainboard, sound card...anything you have plugged in or attached to the computer...scanner, printer...ect. Then, tell us about the hard drive...was it ever working, what kind of drive, did it just up and quit?...did it ever work RIGHT!, any chance a virus may be in the system...what...if any errors you may have seen.. There is no way anybody can help you if we have nothing to go on... rob569 05-04-2001, 02:06 PM I've tried it on IDE 2 it does not come up on the BIOS Menu as anything. I tried the good one and it came up as it should, this drive must be dead. HfdWolfPack 05-05-2001, 12:23 AM Will my new hardware conflict with my operating system? rob569 05-05-2001, 12:29 AM Sorry!! I just built a system with a SA6R Abit motherboard. ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon, TDK CDRW16x, Toshiba DVD16x, Platinum Live, Iomega Zip250, 512Mb memory, P3 1Ghz and Two IBM 40Gb harddrives. One works the other doen't. I believe it is a DOA I don't think it's even spinning. I've switched ribbons and they both work with the good drive on Master Primary and Master Secondary. The dead one doesn't work on either IDE Channel. eweruk 05-05-2001, 12:32 AM Is the drive even being detected in the BIOS? nilknarf 05-05-2001, 12:54 AM oops, double post. [This message has been edited by nilknarf (edited 05-04-2001).] nilknarf 05-05-2001, 12:55 AM Check jumpers, bios, etc. Try one drvie only. the1truescott 05-05-2001, 04:32 AM I've used the 40GB IBMs B4, cant stand the over engineered jumper options on the back. Lets see if I remember... you get options for master.. 15 heads, 16 heads 32 clip and spinner disabled, then the same options for slave, confussing or what ??? Especially as you need to use 2 jumpers for somje option and not for others, if you set the jumpers wrong and then install the HD, you cant see the jumper reference sticker without removing the drive again... AAAAAAH ! atamagawarui 05-05-2001, 04:38 AM Unplug ide cable from all harddrives, and just run your dead harddrive with the jumper setting to master with only the power connected. Listen for a spin-up, if there isn't, its probably dead. You're not missing any IDE pins on your drives are you? or they might be bent? Well anyways goodluck Bovon 05-05-2001, 07:08 AM Rob, from all of the forgoing, I would certainly think the drive is DOA. You should request an RMA for it from your vendor. IBM has had some problems with their drives, but I don't believe this fits the discription of those failures, they apparently are mobo chipset related. SysOpt.com
