Desperatly seeking descent-need gnumake experts here

Ok, here is the big problem:

I am a big Descent fan. So I probed around and found that the unofficial D1X supports windows (yay!). My PC has problems with DOS. So I downloaded the nesecarry programs (EGCS, GNU make, mingw32, dx5 for mingw32, nasm, cwsdpmi) along with the source code.

Well, I followed all the directions, and gnumake said no targets found. ok, so I renamed all the Makefile files to makefile. It worked. Now it was saying I needed xxx.o. There were no .o's in the source code. I got cwsdpmi and enabled it. It only worked in dos mode. But GNUmake doesn't. Now I need help. Anyone wanna try their luck at this problem
