Advanced Micro Devices has said it won't engage in a price war with Intel, the chipmaker is quietly discounting its processors to keep up with its rival.
Under the new cuts, the official price for the 1.3GHz Athlon will drop 45 percent from $318 to $175 and the 1GHz chip will drop 31 percent from $204 to $140. The cuts will also help pave the way for a 1.4GHz Athlon.

OHhh.. I want a 1.3 266 Athlon so bad!
I really want to use the 133 bus on my Epox 8kta3 to it's fullest advantage, especially on a chip that I won't have to overclock the guts out of to get it to dance.
I suppose a couple more weeks won't kill me, though. It'll keep some more cash in the pocket then.
Thanks for the news clip!

I checked out the latest CPU prices for AMD from SharkyExtreme.com and the price for a Athlon T-bird 1.3GHz/200 is $172, and the Athlon T-bird 1GHz/200 $130
Athlon T-bird 1.0GHz/266 $135
My birthday is coming up and I'm finally getting a computer, custom-built by me, AMD-based of course! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
can't wait...

Yes, the price war is on. A 1.33 Ghz 266 FSB T-Bird was a hundred bucks cheaper yesterday when I bought one than the 1.2 GHz 200 FSB that I bought a month ago.

Waiting for that dual AMD board isn't doing anything but saving me money at this point http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Ive been waiting for that Dual AMD board as well, and I'm trying my hardest to not upgrade my RAM or CPU. It's becoming very difficult, as the 760MP keeps getting more delayed, CPU prices come flying down, easy OCs to ~1.5Ghz, and DDR Prices a few bucks over PC133 CAS2.

Anything's better than stealth price increases!

are my eyes going crossed dessorc.??
I've never been on the phone with AMD, but was today. I was shocked at how chatty the tech person was. I was kinda making stuff up, I was really trying to find out corp. info as to who buys what trying to get a name for a sales call. She was wonderful, and went on and on about solutions to my problems, all of which I know weren't caused by their chip. but I mention this because its 2001, do companies still try to hold customers with service????? Because I got excellent service with that call. ( http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gifno name tho http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif)
