Andy_L 04-22-2001, 03:43 AM You need a 80 pin cable to allow it to use the UDMA-66/100 transfer rate, but the drive will work with a standard 40 pin cable at UDMA-33 transfer rate. Is the drive alone on the channel or is it a Master or slave? Does the computer "hang" when it is detecting the drives? Are you CERTAIN the computers you checked it on are capable of recognizing a large drive, ie. newest bios? Finally, what kind of computers did you use? [This message has been edited by Andy_L (edited 04-22-2001).] victorc 05-01-2001, 06:24 PM I do make correct cable that is 80pins, and i do make correct plug to UltraDMA100. The system didn't hang. it just can't detect the HDD.... HotRod9mm 05-01-2001, 07:15 PM victorc.. Is your CMOS set to detect Hdds as "AUTO"? If not set it to "AUTO" and try it again. If you get nothing, then it is possible that it might be defective. Also make sure that when it is set as "Master", the ATA 66/100 IDE cable is pluged into the Hdd with the ""Black" connector and if it is set as "Slave" plug it into the "Gray" one. I have 3, and not a single problem.... Hope this Helps.... t_ski 05-01-2001, 07:37 PM victorc- You may be hooking up the drive cable backward. I've done this before by accident and couldn't get the drive to show up in the BIOS. I changed the cable around and everything was fine from there. If that doesn't work, eliminate everything but the drive, floppy, and video card to help reduce the variables. Double check all of your connections and jumper settings. codybear 05-01-2001, 08:11 PM I hate when this happens..sorry for double post http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif [This message has been edited by codybear (edited 05-01-2001).] codybear 05-01-2001, 08:12 PM when you get to DOS type in the letter of the drive even tho it does not show in the bios..if it detects it there...fdisk/format and you should be ok..I have had a couple like that victorc 05-03-2001, 12:28 AM I did check out the jumper, cable position, and head autodetec... all can't work... one thing i hate this HDD is because of it has lots o jumper... but i did try all of thats. it's still can't work...:~< i am getting headache now.. CMonster 05-03-2001, 12:49 AM No need to get a headache - if you have done all that you say with no results the drive is probably DEAD. Return the drive for refund or exchange. My son has that very 30GB IBM drive without any problem -very fast drive. SysOpt.com
