The onboard peripherals are discrete components. That's as close as you can get to PCI cards.

Just built a system using the A7N8X Dlx. Beautiful board. No need for any PCI devices, six USB ports, Firewire, and it works right out of the box. Good OC'ing BIOS.
And yes, using two DDR modules does make a difference.
I will definitely buy one when I upgrade from my KT-266A.

Read the fine print, under troubleshooting,, The nVidia chpset doesnt support PCI VGA cards to run 2 monitors,, You have to disable the onboard nVidia chipset and install 2 PCI cards for 2 monitors.:t

There is no onboard video on the nForce2 board being discussed. Disabling the "onboard chipset" would disable the motherboard. ;)

I just bought one this weekend:) Having a few difficulties, however, which I hope prove to be just a temporary annoyance. When I attempt to boot the board may or may not boot with the FSB speed settings I selected in BIOS. This board's BIOS has a VOICE.
A woman speaks up and says 'CPU failed due to overclocking' and leaves you hanging with no boot. You return to BIOS and your settings are still there, the bi%$h just chose not to use them:mad: You go through this dance a few times and finally she relents and gives you what you want:rolleyes: It's not that my settings are too aggressive, I don't think (still trying to figure this out), even a mild OC can make this happen. It seems arbitrary, like a flaw of somekind.
And I'm not the only one with this problem. Lots of people reporting it here http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/index.php?sid=b41a3b81b6b812cbfa6c866d88c29412. There may be a simple fix such as turning off 'halt on' (which I cannot find in BIOS) but I suspect something more sinister is going on here.
You will see a number of problems reported there in the ASUS section. I guess these are the inevitable bugs in a new product and I suspected going in I might have a few to deal with. Oh well . . .
I would probably hold off on getting one until some of these things are resolved, if I didn't have one already LOL. I'm still contemplating RMA if I can't fix this. Might try the Epox 8rda+ (or whatever the numebers are for the Epox nforce 2)

Try doing what you said with the Halt On All Errors. If she annoys you that bad, then I think you can turn her off in the BIOS also. Correct me if I'm wrong.
There is def. a Halt On because I already have it turned off. You should read the manual. It actually does give you answers to a lot of the questions you may have. :t

Thanks DesertPony but your suggestion does nothing but stop the 'halt', it still boots up with the wrong settings! If it were this simple I don't think it would be such a hot topic here http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/
And turning off voice does nothing but turn off the voice, which is not much of a solution either. It's actually best to leave 'halt on' on because then at least you have the chance to go back into BIOS and try to fix the settings. I wish it were so simple as reading the manual but trust me, it ain't;)

Asus A7n8x is good if you want all the extras that probably wont actually come into play for sometime and onboard everything, there have been a few questions raised over getting it set up. The Epox 8RDA+ is a very good overclocker, with similar but not all features of the A7n8x for about 20 quid less and is apparently very easy to plug in and play

Alex, what version of the BIOS do you have? I've got 1001C and have no troubles at all... I was also wondering if maybe you were trying to change the multiplyer on a locked CPU.

I've just flashed to the 1002 that came out today, DP. Fourth BIOS I've tried. My chip is un-locked with defogger, confirmed because I've used the lower multies on a Gigabyte 7vrx and they worked - they work on this board too, just not every time. That's what is so weird. The flaw is in the BIOS, that much I am sure of, perhaps in conjunction with having an un-locked chip, or maybe even my memory, ther are many variables - but so far so good with the 1002, fingers crossed. It even opened up the 12.5 x which was closed to me before.

From what I can gather the 1002 BIOS released yesterday has cleared up my remaining problems and those of many others as well - perhaps the board is now comming into focus as the premieire nforce2 MF MOBO it is.
